Whale Shark Rhincodon typus Smith, 1828

From Beckley et al. (2000): "Andrew Smith, a physician, was appoined as the first superintendent of the South African Muesum in Cape Town and he subsequently described about 40 species of South African fishes (Summers 1975; Naudé and Brown 1977, Compagno 1999) including the type specimen of the whale shark (Smith 1828)."
